Age Concern is not solely about Welfare – although it is at the heart of what we do. We also have a thriving social scene with something for everyone to enjoy. This was reflected in the great turn out for our trip to the world famous Festival of Patios in Cordoba on May 13.

It was an early start at 7.30 am and those who know me also know I´m deep in the land of Nod at that time of day. However we needed to get going as we always arrange local pick ups for our clients. On this trip there were 4 of these and with a mid journey comfort break we arrived in Cordoba just after 11.00 am

The crowds were already gathering as this is a hugely popular event. However with a little patience and a cool drink the Patios did not disappoint. As the temperatures rose to an unseasonal 37 the courtyards were cool, invigorating and lush with flowers and fauna.

Once away from the the “classic” blue zone the queues thinned but the patios were no less resplendent. My “better half” found a fabulous little tapas bar tucked away in the old town. She seems to have a sixth sense for these. So after a reviving drink, or two and some food at very sensible prices we made our way back to our coach

The atmosphere as we headed home reflected a great day out and when I heard the words “thank you” it made all the hard work worthwhile. For the record our driver. Alfonso, could have been the long lost sibling to Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee with a contagious sense of humour and couldn´t have been more helpful

We have more day trips and events planned so to find out what we are doing please check with your local Age Concern drop-in centre. There are currently 4 of these located near you in Los Boliches, La Cala, Mijas Pueblo and Arroyo Benalmadena
