Age Concern Fuengirola, Mijas and Benalmadena are still fully engaged in supporting our Clients, Volunteers and visitors in the wider English speaking community. The temporary closure of our 4 drop-in social clubs and Charity shop have meant that these focal meeting points are currently unable to provide the essential social interaction that we all need.
Social interaction is seen as a key element that helps underpin a good quality of life. Meeting old friends and making new ones, having a chat, enjoying a quiz or card bingo are all at the heart of our clubs success. Sometimes it is the simplest things that have the greatest impact
The current crisis means that the Charity has had to adapt so that we can fulfill our responsibilities to our Clients These are the provision of Advice, Support, Help and Friendship. Clients are still able to access help to medical appointments but the clubs have been replaced by greater use of phones and the Internet
Spearheaded by our Welfare section and with the support of a superb team of volunteers Clients and seasonal visitors have been able to request a “buddy” call – an opportunity to chat to a caring and committed volunteer and receive much needed reassurance. The Charity remains dedicated to providing “help where help is needed”If you would like to find out more then please ring the Helpline on 652537615.
Our volunteers have not been forgotten and during this “lockdown” period will also have many questions – what is happening now and for the future? To ensure that we can provide up to date information and reassurance to the people who are the backbone of the Charity we are introducing regular video conferencing open to ALL volunteers
The Charity’s social programme of events, which has amazing support from the community, has of necessity been temporarily suspended. However, as soon as we receive clearance to re-open it will be “business as usual”
Age Concern are happy to reassure all our clients, volunteers, visitors, donors and supporters in our region that we remain committed to serving you through our clubs, our shop, by phone and on-line We will continue to be an integral part of the communities in which we live and work and look forward to catching up with everyone as soon as possible.
Now has never been a better time to get in touch if you would like to find out how we can help you or someone you care about. If you wish to help us in one of our many volunteer roles or as a donor or supporter we would love to talk to you. Please call our Helpline on 652537615 or leave a message and we will get back to you as quickly as possible
Stay safe and well
Steve Marshall, Secretary Age Concern Fuengirola, Mijas and Benalmadena
