Appointment of New President

Age Concern Fuengirola Mijas & Benalmadena has appointed Linda Ewen as its President with immediate effect. Lindas appointment follows the retirement of David Long who has held the President’s position for the past seven years.

Davids journey began when a committee of like-minded people from the community got together and decided to form a charity, rather than create a new charity it was decided the best way forward would be to build on the success of Age Concern and form a local association. Age Concern Fuengirola y Mijas was formed, and its constitution accepted and registered by the Registro de Asociaciones de Andalucia, in July 2014. Since 2014 the charity has been busy increasing the services and help it offers now including support in Benalmadena. Whilst David will be retiring from his position he will still be continuing with the Executive Committee supporting the charity to grow further in the future.

Christine Derecourt, Volunteers Manager for Age Concern Fuengirola Mijas & Benalmadena, who has worked alongside David & Linda said: ‘We are delighted at this appointment, Linda has an enviable track record at Age Concern as Welfare Manager and was one of the co-founding members of the charity her passion for keeping those in later life at the heart of the charity is inspiring to all charity volunteers. We have no doubt that she will be a strong leader and that Age Concern and its volunteers will thrive under her leadership.’

Linda Ewen said: ‘As a person who is passionate about supporting the welfare of older adults, I have always been exceptionally proud to work for Age Concern Fuengirola Mijas & Benalmadena and of our role at the heart of the community working together to share our determination to ensure that older adults can love their later life. And so, I feel very honored to be chosen to lead Age Concern into the future. We are a strong charity, with important work to do, especially at a time when older adults, the community and individuals are facing many difficult challenges.’
Age Concern are currently rebranding and will be inviting the local community to celebrate their success so far and share the future priorities and development work they will be focusing on in the coming months at a public meeting in November.
